Presidential Election

Tide Turning for Bernie

This week’s primaries, both Republican and Democratic, presented a turn in the past trend of Hillary and Trump dominating.  This week, Senator Bernie Sanders got a surprising win in Wisconsin. Bernie’s recent string of victories have shown that he has a decent chance of winning the Democratic nomination. His popularity with young voters is his strength, and If Hillary wants to keep her lead on Bernie, she has to reach out more to the younger voters.

On the Republican side, Ted Cruz won the majority of votes in Wisconsin. Cruz’s win was an important one for the anti-Trump coalition. However, if Trump is to lose, Ted Cruz or John Kasich will need to win more important states.

Now the country’s attention is on New York–a very important state for the elections–with it’s upcoming April 19th primary. For the democrats there is no “home court” advantage in New York, because both candidates were involved in the state. Bernie was born in Brooklyn, while Hillary was a senator representing New York. But, for the Republicans there is an advantage for Donald Trump. He was born and raised in New York and has done a lot of good for the local economy. Although the nomination race has been a roller coaster ride so far, one thing is for certain: it will continue to roll.
