Humans of RASG

Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York,  is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is left out.

Daniel Ohana – Sophomore

“My name is Daniel Ohana and I’m a sophomore at the RASG Hebrew Academy. I’ve been going to this school my whole life, since I was a baby. As you guys know, my mom teaches here. She’s the middle school English teacher, so yeah, I pretty much grew up here. I have three sisters and a dog, Lola, cutest dog in the world. I started the environment club, you know save the planet, #UNLITTER [bites apple]. So when I was younger, my dream job, what I always wanted to be was a baker and I used to always bake when I was younger.  I loved to bake, and I was always baking and it kind of evolved into cooking. Cooking also has to do with health, because when I was younger I was a large child, quite fat, so when you get to make your own food and cook and everything you get to choose what you’re eating which is important. It’s also a fun thing. I love it, I get lost in it all the time. What else? Also, I used to swim for a couple of years, like up until the end of 6th grade and then I started boxing. Boxing led me to Jiu Jitsu, which is kind of like wrestling. I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is an adaptation of traditional Jiu Jitsu, and led me into doing Capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art. It’s really fun I love doing it. I don’t compete because a lot of the competitions are on Shabbat so it’s hard for me to do them, and it’s not like I can stay nearby because the competitions are far, like in Orlando or New York, so you know it’s quite an ordeal.”
